Stevens Trail

Perfectly beautiful day - 3 carloads of us headed down, down, down 4 miles...had lunch at the American River which continues to rush away at tremendous speed. We sat and lay in the sun, watched the birds for a while at lunch and then climbed back up, up, up.

The usual people went - Frank and Ellen returned! - and there was a new hiker, Barb. I didn't get any information from her due to my compromised situation (see below) - so if anyone knows her email, let me know.

Oh embarrassment! I fell IN THE PARKING LOT while turning but looking the other way. Cool move and darned lucky I didn't get further hurt. Passed out (I'm pretty good at that) - came to and hiked the 8 miles with a very stiff neck. Okay today - just the neck.

Wild flowers were plentiful on that south-facing slope: Redbud, Indian Pinks, Paintbrush, Hairy Bells?, Poppies, Baby Blue Eyes, Larkspur, Blue Dicks, Lupine, a red monkey flower, shooting stars, Caterpillar phaecia, Stickseed, Miner's Lettuce, some kind of "bells" Brown Bells?...a lily, and what others? But their density is nothing compared to what you will see NEXT WEEK AT TABLE MOUNTAIN. We talked about meeting at 8:30 that day in order to expedite the long ride. Perhaps Clarence will email you with the definite meeting time.
